I have been planning for the upcoming Individual Assignments (IAs).
For IA02, I have asked to join the Business Department's LinkedIn Group. While I have mentors at home and close connections with many faculty and staff on campus, I do not know other students on a path similar to mine. As such, I am going to utilize the Business Department's LinkedIn Group to attempt to find a role model. If I am unsuccessful, I will reach out to the instructor. I hope to find a role model in the next week or two in order to complete the assignment early.
For IA03, I have already started compiling information. As a graphic designer and filmmaker, I sometimes do freelance work in addition to my two jobs. As such, I maintain a collection of materials such as updated portfolio, resume, business cards, contracts, and LinkedIn profile. For this IA, I will compiling this information in a business plan for a small print shop. I will use my personal branding for the shop. Because I work in a print shop in Carlisle, I have a great understanding of the small print industry. To use my knowledge of the industry and competitors in the Carlisle area, I will set my shop in Boiling Springs, my hometown which is about ten minutes from Carlisle. I will be able to complete this assignment on time because I already have a lot of the information.
For IA04, I will be attending the B&E Department Spring Student-Advisory Board Reception on March 21. If this event falls too late, I will attend the "Fall in Love with Marketing" Mixer. I would prefer to attend the Board Reception as I do not have an interest in marketing. However, I would be pleased to attend either event. I am experienced in networking. I have already researched the speaker of the Marketing mixer, Andrew Garberson, in case I attend that event.
For IA05, I will be attending the "Going All-In On a Startup" Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series on March 9. This event will feature Nina Barbuto, founder of Assemble, a community makerspace. I am interested in this event as it connects to IA03 because I am writing my business plan on a small print shop, which would be a startup. I also love makerspaces as I think they're great resources for connecting people to STEM and the arts. I have a lot of experience with skills such as screenprinting, blacksmithing, 3D modeling and printing, and working with industrial machines such as laser cutters. Having access to a makerspace provides access to those machines and skills, which is great.
