Individual Assignment 01: Stay current

I have been planning for the upcoming Individual Assignments (IAs).

For IA02, I have asked to join the Business Department's LinkedIn Group. While I have mentors at home and close connections with many faculty and staff on campus, I do not know other students on a path similar to mine. As such, I am going to utilize the Business Department's LinkedIn Group to attempt to find a role model. If I am unsuccessful, I will reach out to the instructor. I hope to find a role model in the next week or two in order to complete the assignment early.

For IA03, I have already started compiling information. As a graphic designer and filmmaker, I sometimes do freelance work in addition to my two jobs. As such, I maintain a collection of materials such as updated portfolio, resume, business cards, contracts, and LinkedIn profile. For this IA, I will compiling this information in a business plan for a small print shop. I will use my personal branding for the shop. Because I work in a print shop in Carlisle, I have a great understanding of the small print industry. To use my knowledge of the industry and competitors in the Carlisle area, I will set my shop in Boiling Springs, my hometown which is about ten minutes from Carlisle. I will be able to complete this assignment on time because I already have a lot of the information.

For IA04, I will be attending the B&E Department Spring Student-Advisory Board Reception on March 21. If this event falls too late, I will attend the "Fall in Love with Marketing" Mixer. I would prefer to attend the Board Reception as I do not have an interest in marketing. However, I would be pleased to attend either event. I am experienced in networking. I have already researched the speaker of the Marketing mixer, Andrew Garberson, in case I attend that event.

For IA05, I will be attending the "Going All-In On a Startup" Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series on March 9. This event will feature Nina Barbuto, founder of Assemble, a community makerspace. I am interested in this event as it connects to IA03 because I am writing my business plan on a small print shop, which would be a startup. I also love makerspaces as I think they're great resources for connecting people to STEM and the arts. I have a lot of experience with skills such as screenprinting, blacksmithing, 3D modeling and printing, and working with industrial machines such as laser cutters. Having access to a makerspace provides access to those machines and skills, which is great.

Individual Assignment 03: Create a Personal Business Plan

Personal Business Plan At Emma Engle Design, we provide big agency thinking without the big agency costs. As an experienced creative team, we strive to present creative solutions to any graphic design problems. Business Environment Emma Engle Design will be competing in the graphic design industry. The global graphic design industry has grown 3.0% from 2012-2017, with about 570,000 employees employed by 390,000 businesses ("Global Graphic Designers - Global Market Research Report", 2017). However, with the advent of sites like Fiverr that let people outsource cheap, plagiarized design for $5, the industry has suffered. In the United States, growth for the industry is projected to be slower than average from 2016-2026 at 2-4% ("27-1024.00 - Graphic Designers", 2018). Nationally, there are 26,000 projected annual job openings, but in Pennsylvania there are only 260 projected job openings, which leaves the percent change for PA at -1% ("27-1024...

Individual Assignment 04: Practice Professional Networking

Practice Professional Networking For this assignment, I attended the annual Women & Gender Studies Spring Dinner.
